Eugenie Descombes
4th Grade – French

JERSEY CITY, NJ

My name is Eugénie, and I am from the south of France, where I completed a literary course. This is my first time teaching abroad. I began my studies with a degree in theater, then shifted to LLCE Spanish, and later earned a Master’s degree in teaching, during which I had the opportunity to complete two internships abroad.

My inspiration for teaching comes from my 5th-grade teacher, who both fascinated and impressed me. I vividly remember activities like body expression, a project about world exploration, and discovering Studio Ghibli films, as well as classics by Charlie Chaplin.

What I enjoy most about teaching is watching students thrive and become more autonomous in a dynamic and positive environment. I love seeing them gradually take ownership of the classroom while I step back. I truly love and value the trust that develops along the way.

I hope my students develop a growing curiosity for all subjects, be kind and attentive listeners, and embrace a growth mindset. I also want them to learn to understand and manage their emotions, finding the resources they need. Above all, my main goal is for them to enjoy coming to school.

Besides teaching, I love hiking in the mountains, dancing, singing, going to concerts (mostly indie and alternative rock), listening to New Wave music, going to the movies and theater, and enjoying a good book in a park. I also love riding a bike, Zumba, and brunch on Sundays. In France, I have volunteered with people in poverty with the Red Cross and with seniors with whom we created an intergenerational project.
