Circling back to the International Day of Francophonie! 🌍🇫🇷✨ (Journée Internationale de la Francophonie!)
We are still celebrating the incredible diversity, history, and voices that make up the global Francophone community and our students marked the occasion with some truly breathtaking artwork! 🎨
Under the guidance of their teacher, Elisabeth Spettel, our 9th Graders created a stunning exhibition of monochromatic portraits.
The art work was displayed last weekend during the Festival de la Francophonie organized by Carole Alexis.
This project beautifully bridged Black History Month with the Francophone world, honoring influential activists and artists from both sides of the Atlantic.
A Global Perspective on Civil Rights:
Bridging Cultures: Students first studied the enduring impact of American heroes like Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr.
Francophone Voices: They then broadened their horizons by comparing these leaders to monumental French Caribbean and African writers and activists, including the great Aimé Césaire and Léopold Sédar Senghor.
Modern Inspiration: The project also explored contemporary voices, from poet Amanda Gorman to artist Kara Walker, whose powerful creations continue to challenge injustice.
This brilliant interdisciplinary project shows exactly why learning French is about so much more than just vocabulary and grammar, it is about connecting with global history, understanding diverse cultures, and discovering the universal fight for equality.
We are so proud of our thoughtful, globally-minded students! 🖌️

🌿 Building the School of Tomorrow! 🌍🏫
Earlier this month, our amazing Eco-Delegates traveled to the Lycée Français de New York for an incredible Eco-Teams Challenge!
Joining forces with students from four other French schools in the area, they tackled a top-secret challenge revealed on the spot:
Designing "The school of tomorrow inspired by nature."
Working in collaborative groups, the students used the principles of biomimicry (architecture based on natural animal and plant techniques) to solve real-world environmental issues.
Here is a look at how our young innovators brought their visions to life:
🧠 Collaborative Brainstorming: Students teamed up to choose a challenging environment, coastal areas facing rising sea levels, dense cities dealing with noise and heat, or mountains with extreme climates and mapped out sustainable solutions.
🤝 Expert Consultations: They met with real architects and biomimicry specialists to refine their ideas on how to best understand, protect, and innovate with nature.
✏️ Sketching & Designing: They organized their blueprints using a creative "turtle shell" brainstorming method to lock in their final concepts.
🛠️ Building & Pitching: After a well-deserved lunch break, they spent hours constructing detailed physical models from scratch and confidently presenting their eco-schools to a panel of judges!
We are so incredibly proud of their teamwork, critical thinking, and dedication to a greener future.
If this challenge is any indication, the future of our planet is in excellent hands! 🌱💚

Bringing the desert to New Jersey! 🌵🐍🕷️
What an unforgettable day across our school community!
We had the absolute honor of welcoming award-winning author @dustibowling to two of our campuses, starting the morning in Englewood and wrapping up the afternoon in Downtown Jersey City! 📚✨
A massive shoutout goes to one of our incredible Englewood students, Gitanjali Rao!
Giti took the initiative to personally contact Dusti and even raised the funds to make this cross-campus author tour a reality. She even started the day by doing a speech and introducing Dusti Bowling!
We are so proud of your leadership and passion for reading, Giti! 👏💙
During her time with our students at both campuses, Dusti brought her stories to life through:
🎤 An inspiring general presentation
🙋♀️ A lively Q&A session
✍️ A hands-on writing workshop
📖 A personalized book signing
To top it all off, Dusti brought a little piece of her Arizona home with her! She amazed (and slightly spooked!) our students by showing them a live tarantula, scorpions, and a rattlesnake skin, the very same desert creatures that inspire the thrilling settings of her novels. 🦂🏜️
Thank you, Dusti, for sparking such a love of storytelling in our students today!
