This past Saturday, we hosted our First Annual French-American Holiday Market on our Englewood Campus, and it was everything you’d want from a holiday market — lively, heartwarming, and filled with the spirit of the season.
We were delighted with the incredible turnout as families, friends, and new faces came together to experience a little taste of France right here in New Jersey. Our Englewood campus came alive with live performances from BergenPAC, Cisco the magician, and our very own 8th-grade student singer, Chloe! The aroma of fresh French pastries and traditional French foods added to the atmosphere, alongside the charm of local artisan vendors who showcased unique crafts and holiday gifts. Together, they created a holiday market that felt like a festive celebration of community, French-American culture, and holiday cheer.
For the kids, it was non-stop fun. They bounced between ornament-making, clay sculpting, knitting, baking, slime-making, face painting, and the popular bouncy castle and soccer challenge.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it a day to remember!

The 2nd grade class had a special visitor, Amy, a parent who shared her experiences in Africa. Through her humanitarian work, Amy had the opportunity to explore ten different countries across the continent. Together with her daughter, she brought traditional clothing, jewelry, baskets, plantain chips, and chocolate from Ghana to share with the students. As an international school, opportunities like this help students celebrate cultural diversity and foster a broader understanding of the world around them.
Thank you, Amy, for bringing a piece of Africa to the classroom!

Students learned about:
• How reservoirs work and connect to our homes 🏠
• The intricate process of cleaning and delivering water to households 🚰
• The critical issue of water scarcity and the need for conservation 🌎
This visit aligns with our ongoing commitment to sustainability. Our school has earned the EFE3D Label (Level 3), the highest distinction for sustainable development education, thanks to the collective efforts of our students, teachers, and parents. This year, our sustainable development theme is water.

They visited the mineral halls, which are related to their science curriculum on matter and Earth`s resources that they are learning about in the classroom. They also visited the hall on the solar system in connection with their upcoming unit on interactions within the solar system.
Finally, they attended the "Turtle Odyssey" presentation, which tells the story of a great Australian green turtle, from her birth to the time she lays her own eggs. This exhibition was tied to water, the theme for our school this year as part of our sustainable development initiatives. It also served to raise awareness among the young students about the dangers of pollution to ecosystems, particularly the pollution of oceans by plastics.
Being located near NYC provides many opportunities for field trips to the city while still enjoying the benefits of a suburban environment!

It also encouraged the desire to read a book that they might not have chosen if they had judged it only by its cover or title. It was especially rewarding because, at the end, we saw 2nd graders really interested in the books, making it a great way to promote a love of books and reading.
