Meet the FAA Parent: Didier Amiel on Supporting International Education

“Our home blends two rich cultures, and we hope Melodie grows up with a deep respect for heritage, diversity, and global citizenship. FAA has been an excellent extension of those values, encouraging her to embrace difference while remaining grounded in who she is. “

Q: What motivated you to choose a bilingual French-American school for your child?

Our family is multilingual and multicultural. We were looking for more than just strong academics. We wanted an education that would prepare our daughter, Melodie, to thrive in a global world, to understand and navigate among various cultures. The French American Academy offered a unique blend of academic rigor and international education. We loved the idea of her becoming fluent in two languages while also learning to navigate and appreciate different perspectives from a young age.

Q: With Melodie having experienced the French-American bilingual program from PK2 to 7th grade, what do you see as the most significant advantages of this educational approach?

The benefits have been tremendous. Melodie is not only bilingual, she’s also a confident communicator, a critical thinker, and a truly adaptable student. The blend of French structure and American creativity has helped her develop both discipline and imagination. We’ve seen her grow into someone who’s curious, open-minded, and ready to take on complex ideas, traits we know will serve her well throughout life.

Q: Considering your French background and your wife’s Iranian background, what are some of the unique aspects of your family culture that you are excited for Melodie to carry with her as she grows through her education at the French American Academy?

Our home blends two rich cultures, and we hope Melodie grows up with a deep respect for heritage, diversity, and global citizenship. Whether it’s gathering for Nowruz celebrations or spending Sundays exploring art exhibits and French literature together, we value togetherness, curiosity, and empathy. FAA has been an excellent extension of those values, encouraging her to embrace difference while remaining grounded in who she is.

Q: Given your deep involvement as Chairman of the Board in Englewood and a long-standing parent, you’re instrumental in the upcoming golf outing and gala. What drives your commitment to leading the school’s fundraising efforts?

I really believe in what this school offers. Bilingual education opens so many doors, and I want to help make sure every student gets the most out of it. The golf outing fundraiser, which I help lead, is a great way to raise the funds we need in Englewood, but it’s also just a fun event that brings the community together. It feels good to be part of something that helps the school keep growing.

Q: Can you share some of the activities your family enjoys together, such as hobbies, volunteer work, or sports teams you follow? How do these activities bring your family closer or create special moments together?

I managed a company in the food industry, a field that naturally fosters a strong sense of hospitality, fun, and care. It’s a profession that keeps me connected to people and to the joy of sharing. Outside of work, I find great happiness in spending time on the water. I love taking my family and friends out on a boat, where we can slow down, appreciate the beauty of the ocean, and enjoy peaceful moments together away from the rush of daily life. It’s my way of combining adventure, connection, and serenity.

Q: If your family had a motto to live by, what would it be?

Stay curious. Be kind. Think big

Q: What are some of your favorite FAA memories?

One memory that really stands out is Melodie performing in the End-of-Year Show. Watching her on stage, switching between French and English so naturally, was a proud moment for us. We also loved her 5th Grade Exit Project, she picked a topic she was genuinely curious about and really took ownership of it. And then there’s the FAA Gala, such a fun night that brought all the FAA families together.
