High School Teacher Spotlight: Meet Dr. Elisabeth Spettel!

Meet Dr. Elisabeth Spettel!

FAA Teacher Elisabeth

A dynamic and dedicated teacher with a passion for art and French as a second language (FSL), Elisabeth brings a wealth of experience and contagious enthusiasm to her classrooms. Let’s explore what makes her an amazing addition to our High School team.

Whether she’s discussing surrealist masterpieces or guiding students through the nuances of French verbs, she makes every lesson an adventure. Her qualifications? Beyond impressive! Elisabeth holds a Ph.D. in Visual Arts with top honors from Paris Panthéon Sorbonne and Bordeaux Montaigne University.

Elisabeth is perfectly suited to lead in our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program* in Visual Arts and French Language Acquisition. With her interdisciplinary teaching approach and ability to connect visual arts, art history, philosophy, and language learning, she embodies the IB spirit of being a lifelong learner.

“Inside Out” Project

Elisabeth is adept in project-based learning and creating rich real-world experiences. Her interdisciplinary approach shines through in projects like the “Inside Out” initiative, where students created life-size self-portrait photographs to celebrate diversity.  “She also worked with students to create a magazine about the exhibition “Make Way for Berthe Weill” at Grey Museum (New York University). The students discovered masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Suzanne Valadon, among others, and interviewed the director of Grey Art Museum, Lynn Gumpert, about her work as a curator.

So, get ready, students! Whether you’re diving into a vibrant art project, unraveling a French poem, or exploring global perspectives, Elisabeth Spettel is here to guide, inspire, and make your learning experience unforgettable.

Bienvenue, Elisabeth! We’re so lucky to have you at the French American Academy.
